A Good Introduction to the Intel Mac Partitioning Scheme
Poster: Keifer Mon Nov 03, 2008 2:53 am

I found this really good introduction to how the partitioning system on Intel Macs actually work. It's reasonably in depth, and yet should be understandable for new comers to the minefield that is dual booting an Intel Mac. It doesn't hold your hand through the process of setting up a dual boot system, but it does provide the information that will be needed to understand what's going on when referring to an actual tutorial.

Hopefully someone will find it helpful.

A New Way for LinuxCult.
Poster: Fingel Fri Oct 17, 2008 11:48 pm

Hello LCers!
We promised a new system for the front page of LinuxCult, and here it is:
We want the front page to be interesting and dynamic, and to show other things besides boring site news. In order to make that happen, there is a new system that allows interesting and popular threads to be promoted to the front page.
Any thread posted in the forums, linux related or not, will be promoted to the front page if the moderators feel it should be, or the thread becomes popular enough. The thread will stay on the front page for 15 days or until it is pushed off by newer ones.
We hope that this will promote interesting and thoughtful posts and make LinuxCult a more interesting forum for everyone. You can kind of think of it like Slashdot but all posts can be found in the forums anyways. We hope you like it!

If you haven't already check out the new forums that have been added. If anyone has any suggestions or requests for more forums, please let us know.
Also, there is a new facebook page for anyone who might want to join: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=30395584162
There have been a couple of cosmetic changes to the main page and more are in the works. New theme on the way? We'll see!

We hope you enjoy the changes!

Some New Forums.
Poster: Fingel Thu Oct 16, 2008 10:17 pm

In keeping up with some of the changes that are coming to LinuxCult, the forum structure has changed a bit.
For starters, we have added 3 additional forums:

Math, science and technology
Games and Entertainment
Debate

Additionally, we have incorporated the Networking and Compiz forums into the General and Software forums, respectively. There forums didnt get enough posts in them to warrant separate forums.

These changes were made so that LinuxCulter's could have a place to discuss other things besides just linux. Hopefully this will strengthen the community and make the forum a more interesting place to be.

We will announce a new front page system soon, probably later tonight. Let us know if you have any feedback.

Change of direction for Linuxcult.
Poster: Fingel Tue Oct 14, 2008 2:58 am

In the last couple of weeks, Linuxcult has gone silent. The reasons are obvious:
For one, we aren't getting any new members. No new members = no new help topics = dead forum.
Secondly, while forums can survive with the number of members we have that are actually interested in the site, us "oldtimers" are only good at helping people that have problems with linux. After all the years that we have been using linux we are pretty good at troubleshooting on our own and thus we aren't the ones to start new topics. 8-)
So we need to attract new members and give us old ones something to talk about. Thats why Spacejunk and I have decided to change the main idea of the site. Everything will stay the way it is now, with the exception of one addition. We would like to post regular "blogish" stories to the front page. Although we want to keep the site Linux oriented, we will most likely be posting general technology related writings. People will be able to comment on stories as well as submit their own.
While Spacejunk and I will do our best to keep the content fresh, we are both pretty busy and don't have copious amounts of free time. If anyone is interested in becoming a regular writer for linuxcult, please send either of us a PM and we will discuss it further.
Thanks to all that still check the site every once and a while and apologies for its recent slowdown. Hope to see some of you back for this next round!
